A feeling of the book
Recently, I read a book written by LiuXiaoChuan and named" taste of the Chinese scholars ", the book is mainly to introduce some famous scholars who had a great influence on later famous scholars in the aspect of culture, such as Sima qian, Li bai, Du fu and etc. Due to an accidental opportunity, an introduction of Wang anshi's reading s appeared in front of me during an examination . After reading it, I found the style of the author's writing matching my taste, so I wrote down the name of the book which was named " taste of the Chinese scholars ".
In fact, I haven't finished reading the book. The parts of the book have introduced qu yuan, Sima xiangru and so on . In this book, I admire Qu yuan very much. He donated his life to chu, after the crackdown in the treacherous SIMS, for countries to do and ultimately. After the destruction of chu, he held on a big stone and sank a river .
As a politician he set up an outstanding example, undivided attention served the country, and didn't care about others supercilious look all the time. As a poet, he made a groundbreaking beginning again for all such as Tang Dynasty literature and enriched the culture of later generations. As a country people, and he taught us, no matter what we do to our motherland, we should love our motherland, because we each individual is the member of the motherland. No matter how it is bad, we also have no right to leave. In today's society, many people feel that China now pared with Japan, the United States and other developed countries will be left behind, even some want to wait for his money later, will surely immigration to the United States, Britain, and never the backward countries, this let him feel shame country. Few imagine, developing our country is every citizen's responsibility and obligation. Oh, when our country appeared more spiritual leader as the same Qu yuan, we will walk from this strange knows

Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.
The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his tties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.
The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt
for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness
eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He t for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.
How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that
goodness could conquer every
difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.
For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their
‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.
Francis Bacon said in his essay,
‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it,
man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’
That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything.
Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.

wind》 。

another day.”.

Tomorrow is a New Day
Reading on Gone With the Wind
American writer Margaret Mitchell wrote a work merely on the legendary place in the literacy circles of writers, her only work Gone with the Wind has bee the United States’ best-selling works of
fiction overnight .November 8th, 1900, Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta, home of a lawyer. Since childhood, the Civil War, which happening in Atlanta, has bee the topic. Of course Atlanta became the natural background of the novel. Margaret has spent ten years’ time to write the novel and half a year’s time to
cross-check fiction historical events involved in the specific time and place.
Gone with the Wind is a novel describes love. Margaret used her female fine and smooth to grasp young women’s plicated
psychological activities exactly when they are seeking for love ,modeling this novel’s plex figure Scarlett
successfully .Sometimes, this figure was very familiar to us ,but sometimes very strange. Sometimes we could understood her,but
sometimes we thought she was unintelligible. However, we could fell she was very authentic from beginning to the end , these were this book’s greatest achievements. Scarlett was young and beautiful but what she had did show her cruel and greedy. In order to re-energize her family property, she took her love and marriage as
business. She had three marriages, but she was not sincere at all. Finally, she found that, Ashley, the man she kept in mind constantly was weak and inpetent in character. But the man named Rhett Butler was worthwhile to be loved.
From the view of appreciation of the beauty, the person who had a plicated character could not be intaken into a negative character simply. In previous novels, the author used to shape the character in a simple way. Gone with the Wind has broken this descriptive method. The novel by the characters presented to us are both positive and negative of the bination.
Scarlett, the leading character in the novel, impressed me the most. So I want to talk something about her. Her character was very plex. She was childish and optimistic. She had a tense feeling and her feeling was apt to be revealed. In the meanwhile, she was self-willed and like a bear with a sore head. She was also quite
responsible for her own action. She was not good at analyzing and introspection. These characters made her use six or seven years’
experiences to realize that the unwilling love was wrong. This kind of love was just a fine kink but not real exist. From another point of view, I appreciate Scarlett’s brave and strong. When she faced
difficulties she would say: Tomorrow is another day. Yeah, what a reasonable sentence. It’s of great philosophic theory. It told us to be confident to life. When I meet difficulty, I will tell myself: tomorrow is
another day.
Gone with the Wind has a very significant position in our society. We feel America is an incredible and strange country, but Gone with the Wind uncovers her too softhearted veil, making people see many things that dirty and glorious are coexisted. It also has a special significance to adolescents. This novel became famous overnight as soon as it published. This novel which reached a length of 1000 pages shocked American. The movie Gone with the Wind was adapted from this novel. The movie made the novel even more famous. It is quite worth reading.
Title: Gone With The Wind
About the Title:
The title of Gone with the Wind is taken from the first line of the third stanza of the poem Non sum 1uails eram bonae sub regno Cynarae by Ernest Dowson: “I have forgotten much, Cynara! Gone
with the wind.” The title phrase also appears in the novel: When Scarlett of French-Irish ancestry escapes the bombardment of Atlanta by Northern forces; she flees back to her family?s plantation, Tara. At one point, she wondered, “Was Tara still standing? Or was
Tara also gone with the wind which had swept through Georgia?”
The title is beautiful, gone with the wind, everything, like the old traditional South, like Melanie, like the slave system and Scarlett?s love to Ashley?
Author: Margaret Mitchell
About the author:
Margaret Mitchell, an American woman writer in the South, was born on November 8, 1900 in Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived all her life. Her mother was a suffragist, father a prominent lawyer and president of the Atlanta Historical Society. Mitchell grew up listening to stories about old Atlanta and the battles the confederate Army had fought there during the American Civil War. At the age of fifteen she wrote in her journal: “If I were a boy, I would try for
West Point, if I could make it, or well I?d be a prize fighter.”
Mitchell graduated from the local Washington Seminary and started
in 1918 to study medicine at Smith College. In her youth Mitchell adopted her mother?s feminist leanings which clashed with her father?s conservatism, but she lived fully the Jazz age and wrote about it in nonfiction, like in her ?Dancers Now Drown Out Even the Cowbell? in he Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine. When Mitchell?s mother died in 1919, she returned to home to keep house for her father and brother. In 1922 she married Berrien Kennard Upshaw. The disastrous marriage was climaxed by spousal rape and was annulled in 1924. Mitchell started her career as a journalist in 1922 under the name Peggy Mitchell, writing s, interviews, sketches, and book reviews for the Atlanta Journal. Four years later she resigned after an ankle injury. Her second husband, John Robert Marsh, an advertising manager, encouraged Mitchell in her writing aspirations.
From 1926 to 1929 she wrote Gone with the Wind, the novel took her nearly ten years. She never thought that so many people favor it even now. The book broke sales records, the New Yorker praised it and the poet and critic John Crowe Ransom admired “the
architectural persistence behind the big work” but criticized the
book as overly Southern, particularly in its treatment of Reconstruction. Malcolm Cowley?s disdain in his review
originated partly from the book?s popularity. John Peale Bishop
dismissed the novel as merely “One more of those 1000 page
novels, petent but neither very good nor very sound.” But in
these opponents? sounds, the book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
Although Gone with the Wind brought Mitchell fame and a tremendous fortune, it seems to have brought little joy. Chased by the press and public, the author and her husband lived modestly and traveled rarely. Also questions about the book?s literary status and racism, historical view and depiction of the Klux Klan, which had many similarities with D.W. Griffith?s film The Birth of a Nation (1915), led to critical neglect that continued well in the 1960s. Griffith?s film was based on the Reverend Thomas Dixon?s racist play; the author was a great admirer of Mitchell and wanted to write a study of her novel. In Atlanta the Klan kept a high profile and had it national headquarters in the 1920s on the same street, where Mitchell lived.
During World War II, Mitchell was a volunteer selling war bonds and volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was named honorary citizen of Vimoutiers, France, in 1949, for helping the city obtain American aid after World War II.
Mitchell died in Atlanta on August 16, 1949. She was struck by a speeding car while crossing Peachtree Street.
Summary of the :
The novel is set in North Georgia at the time of the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1865 and beyond when the Southern plantation owners fought the northern Yankees for the right to own slaves. They lost the war, suffered innumerable losses of life in the process, and the romantic plantation life depicted in the early chapters of the novel is utterly destroyed. During this period the characters in the novel undergo the transition from a carefree playful life of piics and parties (underlain by the hard graft of their slaves) to one of hand-to-mouth living and hard physical labour, and finally, back to prosperity.
The body is made up of four chapters. Chapter One gives a brief introduction of Margaret Mitchell?s life, the traditional Southern Womanhood and the feminist. Margaret Mitchell is a woman writer. She has strong feminism. We can get it from the novel, especially from Scarlett. Chapter Two to Chapter Four described the life of Scarlett before war, in the war and after war. These three chapters analyze how Scarlett pletes her transformation from 16 years old girl deeply influenced by traditional Southern Womanhood to a serious-minded and far-sighted woman. and pared Sarlett with Melanie, they are quite different girls, and those differences make their life very different, any way, attitude is everything. The novel named Gone with the Wind. And Melanie is the wind; she is
traditional, graceful and tolerant. The old South has gone with the wind, and
so Melanie. Scarlett was not, she is new, and she is decisive and firm. She is quite an opponent of the old South. New American es, and so Scarlett.
The conclusion summarizes the whole thesis and reiterates the main viewpoint: her transformations connected closely with her three stages of life. She is increasingly maturing and in the end bees a new Southern woman with strong feminism leanings. When we faced with difficulties we will call the memories of Scarlett and her words to the world “Tomorrow is another day”!
Review:
Gone with the Wind, written by Margaret Mitchell has been one of the bestsellers and popular with the reader ever since its publication in 1936. It is her first and only long novel. The writer not only created a myth, but also shows her own personal charm to the world. In 70 years since 1936, the novel was wide spread and well received. It was considered as a very classic work. But many opponents do not agree with that. In their eyes the novel will never have the chance to enter the scared palace of American literature and Scarlett O?Hara the protagonist in the novel is an extremely selfish, vain, and merciless woman who will not hesitate to resort to
any means in order to reach her ends. But as time passed, the novel spread more and more widely, sweeps the world and has aroused interest of a large number of fascinated viewers. And the readers more and more favored the heroine Scarlett.
There are four main characters in the novel, all introduced very early on of whom. Scarlett O?Hara is a spoilt society beauty with “bristling black eyelashes” – I love this description! – which
she uses to charm men. She lives with her sisters and parents on their plantation estate with dozens of slaves, including Mammy, their black housekeeper who is regarded (as much as was possible at that time) part of the family and plays an important role in Scarlett?s life. The storyline centres around Scarlett?s life at the time of the civil war and the other characters which interact with her.
Rhett Butler is a dashing renegade, the man who is rumoured to have ruined a woman (whispered in shocked tones among Scarlett?s panions). He is described as having “absurdly tiny feet” which
Scarlett admires – an interestingly dated concept - certainly I don?t look for my men to have SMALL feet?!
Melanie Hamilton is a fellow society girl, generous, well respected and sensible. Scarlett despises her for being wishy washy and pathetically feminine.
Ashley Wilkes is the good guy, respected throughout the neighbourhood, the Luke Skywalker to Rhett?s Han Solo. He?s the object of Scarlett?s affections, yet engaged to be married to Melanie. When Scarlett discovers this fact she throws a vase across a library, nearly decapitating Rhett in the process.
The book starts with the heroine of the piece, 17 year old Miss Scarlett O?Hara flirting to the best of her capacity with the handsome Tarleton twins on the porch of Tara, her
plantation house home, and berating the seriousness of the impending war because it ruins her capacity to have fun, attend parties and have beaux. I mention this first page because it encapsulates the very nature of the entire novel. Scarlett O?Hara is a spoilt, selfish beauty with enormous power to manipulate men and a desire for the good things in life. Knowing this, you can see why she makes some of her seemingly ridiculous choices
throughout the novel.
Throughout the novel Scarlett makes some appalling decisions, such as marrying the shy, nervous Charles Hamilton (Melanie?s brother) for spite because Ashley dared to marry Melanie. She quickly finds that married life isn?t what it?s cracked up to be, and that she can no-longer flirt to her heart?s content. Matters are made even worse when Charles dies while at war, and Scarlett is
doomed to years of widowhood, wearing black and no dancing. Worse than this even, she is pregnant with her first child, a fact she despises. However, Scarlett is not one to be held down for long and she quickly rebels against the constraints the society imposes by both dancing and wearing brightly coloured clothing (at Rhett?s impetus) while still in mourning.
Later on when the guns of war e close around Scarlett and her rades she shows surprising resilience and strength, delivering Melanie?s baby single-handed amid the sacking of Atlanta, and taking on the responsibility of managing Tara. She proves to be a sound and resourceful businesswoman, who can make difficult decisions when they are needed.
You can?t help but like Scarlett. She?s hopelessly selfish, vain, manipulative, deluded and foolish, but she?s also an extremely vivacious, loyal and strong character who can be relied upon to say and do just exactly what she thinks, regardless of the impact on other people. Again and again through the novel you find yourself thinking “noooooo don?t do that” but you know she?s going to do
it anyway. Rhett Butler is the perfect foil to her
exuberance and wilfulness, and though immens(转载
Scarlett, proves to be the only man who can help her at certain
points through the novel.
The book is very dramatic, and very much of the era, though written 60 years after the events it describes. For example, racism and snobbery is blatant and frustrating to a modern reader, but this just serves to evoke the period more accurately. The strictures imposed on the life which Scarlett and her panions live in is a key feature of the novel, and the gathering rebellion against these constraints a parallel with the emancipation of the slaves.

Thomas Hardy, a famous English novelist and poet, was born on June 2, 1840, in Higher Bockhampton in Dorset, a rural region of southwestern England that was to bee the focus of his fiction. When he was young, he seriously considered attending university and entering the church, but because of the declining religious faith and lack of money , he decided to pursue a career in writing instead. However, he didn’t succeed until 1874 when his novel Far from the Madding Crowd was published, the first work that can support him.
Although Hardy built a reputation as a successful novelist, he considered himself first and foremost a poet. To him, novels were primarily a means of earning a living. He was highly critical of much in Victorian society , though Hardy focused more on a declining rural society . In many respects, Hardy was trapped in the middle ground between Victoria n sensibilities and more modern ones, and between tradition and innovation.
Tess of the D ’Urbervilles was published in 1891, which not only assured Hardy ’s financial future, but also aroused a substantial amount of controversy . In Tess of the D ’Urbervilles and other novels, Hardy demonstrates his deep sense of moral sympathy for England ’s lower classes, particularly for rural women. This novel and the one followed it, Jude the Obscure, engendered widespread public scandal with their paratively frank look at the sexual hypocrisy of English society.
Hardy was frustrated by the controversy caused by his work, and he finally abandoned novel-writing altogether following Jude the Obscure . He spent the rest of his career writing poetry . Though today he is remembered somewhat more for his novels, he was an acclaimed poet in his time and was buried in the prestigious Poet ’s Corner of Westminster Abbey following his death in 1928.
About the characters:
Tess Durbeyfield-- The novel’s protagonist, she is a beautiful, loyal young woman living with her down and out family in the village of Marlott. Tess has a keen sense of responsibility and is mitted to doing the best she can for her family, although her inexperience and lack
of wise parenting leave her extremely vulnerable. Her life is plicated when her father discovers a link to the noble line of the d’Urbervilles, and, as a result, Tess is sent to work at the d’Urberville mansion. Unfortunately , her ideals cannot prevent her from sliding further and further into misfortune after she bees pregnant by Alec d’Urberville. The terrible irony is that Tess and her family are not really related to this branch of the d’Urbervilles at all: Alec’s father, a merchant named Simon Stokes, simply assumed the name after he retired.
Angel Clare --An intelligent young man who has decided to bee a farmer to preserve his intellectual freedom from the pressures of city life. Angel’s father and his two brothers are respected pastors , but Angel’s religious doubts have kept him from joining the min istry . He meets Tess when she is a milkmaid at the Talbothays Dairy and quickly falls in love with her.
Alec d’Urberville--The handsome, amoral son of a wealthy merchant named Simon Stokes. Alec is not really a d’Urberville—his father simply took on the name of the ancient noble family after he built his mansion and retired. Alec is a manipulative, sinister young man who does everything he can to seduce the inexperienced Tess when she es to work for his family. When he finally has his way with her, out in the woods, he subsequently tries to help her but is unable to make her love him.
Summary
Tess Durbeyfield is a 16-year-old simple country girl, the eldest daughter of John and Joan Durbeyfield. One day John Durbeyfield discovers that he is the descendent of the d’Urbervilles, so John and his wife send Tess to “claim kin” in order to alleviat e their impoverished condition. But at the d’Urbervilles, the master Alec seduces and rapes Tess.
Tess returns home, gives birth to a son, Sorrow, who bees ill and dies in infancy. Tess goes away from home to nearby Talbothays Dairy to bee a milkmaid. There she meets and falls in love with a travelling farmer’s apprentice, Angel Clare. She tries to resist Angel’s pleas for her hand in marriage but eventually mar ries Angel. He does not know Tess’ past, although she has tried on several occasions to tell him. After the wedding, Tess and Angel confess their pasts to each other. Tess forgives Angel for his past indiscretions, but Angel cannot forgive Tess for having a child with another man.
Angel leaves Tess. She is really sad and lives alone for quite a long time. When her family suffers difficulty , she sees Alec again, now a practicing evangelical minister. Tess
knows that she cannot resist Alec’s money and the forts her family can use. Furthermore, Alec insists that Angel will never return and has abandoned her—an idea that Tess has already e to believe herself.
In the meantime, Angel returns from Brazil to look for Tess and to begin his own farm in England. In the meeting with Angel, Tess asks him to leave and not return for her. Angel does leave, resigned that he had judged Tess too harshly and returned too late.
After her meeting with Angel, Tess confronts Alec and accuses him of lying to her about Angel. Tess stabs Alec through the heart with a carving knife, killing him. Tess finds Angel to tell him of the deed. Angel has trouble believing Tess’ story but weles her back. The two travel the countryside via back roads to avoid detection. Their plan is to make for a port and leave the country as soon as possible. They spend a week in a vacant house, reunited in bliss for a short time. They are discovered, however, and the trail ends at Stonehenge, the ancient pagan monument, when the police arrest Tess and take her away. Before she is executed for her crime, Tess has Angel promise to marry her sister Liza Lu once she is gone. Angel agrees and he, along with Liza Lu, witnesses a black flag raised in the city of Wintoncester, signifying that Tess’ death sentence has been carried out. The two, Angel and Liza Lu, leave together, and the tragic tale of Tess ends.
My view of Tess of the D’Urbervilles
"Would you please forgive me?" "Too late, it is too late!" This kind of sentence reminds me of the sentences Gu Man said to Shen ShiJun in Half Life Fate, “We can't go back to the past, never!" Some of the feelings didn't we know how to cherish, the more we value, the more difficult for us to hold. In the face of love, we are puzzled like a child and don’t know what to do.
People always regret for what they have lost. At the beginning, they are so heartless, but now so spoony. Tess paid her chastity for life and paid her life for love. I have to sigh for her, why is it so difficult for a woman to live a good life? She is so pure and natural. She is the daughter of nature.
Thomas hardy reflects his pessimistic fatalism in this novel. Tess is in humiliation, no matter how to struggle for life, she can't change the fate and mock, and finally go to the blind
alley. In the beginning of the story, when Tess's father John was told that he is the offspring of a very noble family, he had Tess to be related. Due to her deep love toward her family and the sense of guilt of the death of the only horse, she did so and be seduced by Alec, which left a deep shadow in her later life.
And when her child died, she insisted that the baby of sensual product is innocent and should be baptized. This is also a strong sense of responsibility. And this kind of
responsibility is really important in Tess’s whole life even in the later development of the
story. Just like the time when she told her husband her sorrow past, that is the reflection of her strong responsibility, which also caused her miserable life unfortunately.
Hardy once wrote a poem called The Last Chrysanthemum.
Too late its beauty, lonely thing/The season's shine is spent/Nothing remains for it but shivering/In tempests turbulent/Had it a reason for delay/Dreaming in witlessness/That for a bloom so delicately
gay/Winter would stay its stress/I talk as if the thing were born/With sense to work its mind/Yet it is but one mask of many worn/By the Great Face behind. Perhaps the fate of Tess just like the beautiful chrysanthemum, under the tease of destiny, she finally died.
Hardy added Tess with a subhead " a pure woman ", perhaps this is the most
appropriate evaluation for her. She is not only beautiful and kind, owning all the traditional virtue, the more important thing is that she is clean and pure, pure in her love. She loves Angel, not only his appearance, but his talent, his spiritual world. She loved him, wanted to go to bear this love even under pain, even in the danger of death.
Beautiful things are always fragile and always vanished quickly, but once it was
beautiful, it will be stored in our heart deeply and profoundly.
