12 Ways to Avoid Cancer In Your Life
Today I had an internship at the cancerology department of my faculty. Of all the patients I ever encountered during my internships, I were the most affected by patients suffering from cancer and who had almost no hope of returning back to a normal life. This led me to ponder on the question of how our nutrition and lifestyle has changed drastically over the centuries and how cancer can be avoided. Today you have more fatty, sugary foods, animal meats doped with hormones and steroids and cultivations sprayed with insecticides and pesticides. All these contribute to the formation of cancers. So how to decrease the risks of cancer?
1. Limit the consumption of fine sugars
By this, I mean sugars which are powdery or in small cubes which are use to make cakes and other delicacies. So no sugar in your Coffee or tea as from now. Replace white bread with wholewheat breads. Stop drinking sodas. These food products have a high glycemic index: they contain a lot of sugar which are digested and absorbed very quickly by the human body. Cancerous cells need a lot of glucose to develop rapidly. A diet with lots of sugars can favorize the development of tumors in your body. Moreover, your pancreas, the organ which produces insulin in your body, must increase its turnover of insulin to break down surplus sugar. This increase of insulin, according to the chief of cancerology department, stimulates the growth and diffusion of cancerous cells. It is imperative then to limit the consumption of fine sugars.
2. Avoid hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils
You can find them in some margarines and prepared dishes. They have inflammatory properties and prepare the ground for the formation of cancerous tissues. These are also trans fat products. Trans fats lowers the amount of HDL or good cholesterol.
3. Opt for fresh farmers foods
Fresh farmers foods have the advantage of having been cultivated the traditional way. The fruits and vegetables are not contaminated by pesticides and insecticides and the meats are not loaded with steroids and hormones. But beware though. Some farmers do resort to orthodox and unhealthy methods to boost their productions.
4. Green Tea
Green tea is rich in polyphenols and seems to block the formation of tumors by preventing blood vessels of forming everywhere. Green tea also seem to prevent the formation of leukemia, cancers of the prostate, breasts, kidneys, skins and mouth.
5. Soja
Soja contains isoflavines which have the property of reducing overstimulation of the body by oestrogens. It is used in some treatments of cancer like breasts cancer.
6. Curcuma
Curcuma have anti-inflammatory properties and thus may prevent proliferation of some tumors, namely in the colon, liver or stomach and breasts.
7. Maintain a correct weight
Maintain your BMI (Body Mass Index) in the healthy normal range of 18.5 to 24,9. Overweight and obesity increase the risks of developing cancer, even more if you have a lot of fatty tissues around your waists. An increase in weight raises the probability of having cancer in your colon and rectum, oesophagus, pancreas, kidneys and breasts even after menopause.
8. Do some regular physical activities
The famous 30 minutes daily walk must no longer remains as idle talks. You must make sure you have a daily time slice to do some jogging, walking or other physical
activities. Doing some kind of sports may have some benefits against certain types of cancer such as lung and pancreatic cancers.
9. Limit the consumption of red meat to 500 g per week
Red meat has been known to be one of the causes of the cancer of the colon and rectum. But do not eliminate it pletely from your diet because it is also a very good source of essential minerals and nutrients like proteins, zinc and iron.
10. Daily Maximum Alcohol Intake: only 1 glass for women and two glasses for men. And no alcohol for pregnant women! Alcohol favorizes the apparition of cancer in certain parts of the body: colon, rectum, oesophagus, liver and even breasts. 11. Limit consumption of salt to 5 g per day
It seems that salt is one of the major causes of stomach cancer.
12. Mothers should breastfeed their babies
Ideally every baby should be fed by breastfeeding only till the age of six months. Breastfeeding decreases the risks of Breast Cancers for the women and participates in the development of a solid immunitary system of the growing child. This also prevents overweight later.
Note that nutrition is one of the contributing factors among other factors such as heredity, stress, work environment, exposure to sun and chemicals, smoking but if you
(二)
Night after night, she came to tuck me in, even long after my childhood years. Following her longstanding custom, she'd lean down and push my long hair out of the way, then kiss my forehead.
I don't remember when it first started annoying me — her hands pushing my hair
that way. But it did annoy me, for they felt work-worn and rough against my young skin. Finally, one night, I shouted out at her, "Don't do that anymore —your hands are
too rough!" She didn't say anything in reply. But never again did my mother close out my day with that familiar expression of her love.
Time after time, with the passing years, my thoughts returned to that night. By then I missed my mother's hands, missed her goodnight kiss on my forehead. Sometimes the incident seemed very close, sometimes far away. But always it lurked, in the back of my mind.
Well, the years have passed, and I'm not a little girl anymore. Mom is in her mid-seventies, and those hands I once thought to be so rough are still doing things for me and my family. She's been our doctor, reaching into a medicine cabinet for the remedy to calm a young girl's stomach or soothe the boy's scraped knee. She cooks the best fried chicken in the world... gets stains out of blue jeans like I never could... Now, my own children are grown and gone. Mom no longer has Dad, and on special occasions, I find myself drawn next door to spend the night with her. So it was late on Thanksgiving Eve, as I slept in the bedroom of my youth, a familiar hand hesitantly run across my face to brush the hair from my forehead. Then a kiss, ever so gently, touched my brow.
In my memory, for the thousandth time, I recalled the night my young voice plained, "Don't do that anymore — your hands are too rough!" Catching Mom's
hand in hand, I blurted out how sorry I was for that night. I thought she'd remember, as I did. But Mom didn't know what I was talking about. She had forgotten — and
forgiven — long ago.
That night, I fell asleep with a new appreciation for my gentle mother and her caring hands. And the guilt that I had carried around for so long was nowhere to be found.

Beautiful Smile and Love
The poor are very wonderful people. One evening we t out and we picked up four people from the street. And one of them was in a most terrible condition, and I
told the sisters: You take care of the other three. I take care of this one who looked worse. So I did for her all that my love can do. I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful smile on her face. She took hold of my hand as she said just the words "thank you" and she died. I could not help but examine my conscience[良心]before
her and I asked what would I say if I was in her place. And my answer was very simple. I would have tried to draw a little attention to myself. I would have said I am hungry, that I am dying, I am cold, I am in pain, or something, but she gave me much more-she gave me her grateful love. And she died with a smile on her face. As did that man whom we picked up from the drain[阴沟、下水道], half eaten with worms, and
we brought him to the home. "I have lived like an animal in the street, but I am going to die like an angel, loved and cared for." And it was so wonderful to see the greatness of that man who could speak like that, who could die like that without blaming anybody, without cursing anybody, without paring anything. Like an angel-this is the greatness of our people. And that is why we believe what Jesus had said: I was hungry, I was naked, I was homeless, I was unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and you did it to me.
I believe that we are not real social workers. We may be doing social work in the eyes of the people, but we are really contemplatives[修行者、沉思冥想的人] in the
heart of the world. For we are touching the body of Christ tty-four hours…And I
think that in our family we don't need bombs and guns, to destroy, to bring peace, just get together, love one another, bring that peace, that joy, that strength of presence of each other in the home. And we will be able to overe all the evil that is in the
world.
And with this prize that I have received as a Prize of Peace, I am going to try to make the home for many people who have no home. Because I believe that love begins at home, and if we can create a home for the poor I think that more and more love will spread. And we will be able through this understanding love to bring peace be the good news to the poor. The poor in our own family first, in our country and in the world. To be able to do this, our Sisters, our lives have to be wove with prayer. They have to be woven with Christ to be able to understand, to be able to share. Because to be woven with Christ is to be able to understand, to be able to share. Because today there is so much suffering…When I pick up a person from the street, hungry, I give him a plate of rice, a piece of bread, I have satisfied. I have removed that hunger. But a person who is shut out, who feels unwanted, unloved, terrified, the person who has been thrown out from society-that poverty is so full of hurt and so unbearable…And so let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the
beginning of love, and once we begin to love each other naturally we want to do something.

How a Colt Crossed the River
One day, a colt took a bag of wheat to the mill. As he was running with the bag on his back, he came to a small river. The colt could not decide whether he could cross it. Looking around, he saw a cow grazing nearby. He asked, “Aunt Cow, could you tell me if I can cross the river?” The cow told him that he could and that the river was not very deep, just knee high.
The colt was crossing the river when a squirrel jumped down fron a tree and stopped him. The squirrel shouted, “Colt, stop! You’ll drown! One of my friends drowned just yesterday in the river.” Not knowing what to do, the colt t home to consult his mum.
He told his mum his experience on the way. His mother said, “My child, don’t always listen to others. You’d better go and try yourself. Then you’ll know what to do.” Later, at the river, the squirrel stopped the colt again. “Little horse, it’s too dangerous!” “No, I want to try myself,” answered the colt. Then he crossed the river carefully.

1.Psychology, Stress Influence Pilots' Mental Health
Some are asking whether personality tests could have prevented co-pilot Andreas Lubitz from crashing a Germanwings passenger airplane in the French Alps on March 24. But experts say many kinds of stress in the work of airline pilots can contribute to their mental health.
Dr. Andre Droog is a psychologist who has worked with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' flight academy for 22 years. Now he is president of the European Association for Aviation Psychology, EAAP. Mr. Droog says he knows the personality type that is drawn to being a pilot. Usually, he says, people who want to be pilots have a good way of thinking.
“They are quite well selected and very motivated in being an airline pilot. They sometimes have to overe deceptions of [failing] an exam or something but, in general they are a group of very enthusiastic people and mentally very healthy."
Mr. Droog has spent years working with pilots following training accidents caused by mechanical or pilot failure. He says the job does have factors that may impose a lot of stress on an individual.
“It's a special job. You are working at irregular times. If you have a family you are often not there and on the other hand you may be at home when everyone is at work,” Mr. Droog says. “If you are flying intercontinental flights, you may build up jet lag and fatigue and of course you have to manage your life very well.”
In the book “Anxiety at 35,000 Feet: An Introduction to Clinical Aerospace Psychology,” author Robert Bor repeats some of these ideas. He says handling plex systems aboard an aircraft contributes to the stress of the job of a pilot.
Mr. Bor says, “These are also shift workers who do not follow the same working hours as most people and their offices are cramped flight decks at 35,000 feet in the air.”
Other contributing factors to stress are regular tests. Mr. Bor says regular testing makes the pilot "subject to the close monitoring of other crew members.” In other words, someone regularly watches pilots to make sure they are doing a good job. Mr. Bor says this experience is like an “incessant driving test," or a test that never ends.
Is testing the answer?
Like the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency does not require regular psychological tests. However, these tests can be taken if examiners find cause for concern during periodic physicals, which include a discussion of mental well-being. The role of psychological tests is noted in the agencies’ guidelines.
The U.N.’s International Civil Aviation Organization manual states: “Personality tests alone have not been proven to be reliable tools to predict mental disorders or to assess with any degree of certainty an applicant’s suitability for an aviation career.”
EAAP’s Mr. Droog agrees with that assessment – a psychological test alone cannot say whether someone will be a good and res
ponsible pilot. Mr. Droog says instead, pilots should have the opportunity to discuss their mental health many times during their careers.
“It is asking the right questions at the right time. [Pilots] have to perform during the year at least four times in a [flight] simulator for training and proficiency,” Mr. Droog says.
At these times, he says, examiners giving those tests should keep an eye on possible signs of fatigue and stress. These are the critical times to talk to pilots face to face about their mental condition.
“Psychological testing is very effective in the beginning before they start training just to select the right people for the job,” Mr. Droog says. "But psychological tests are not very effective in predicting life events and how people cope with them.”
Incidents are rare
The Aviation Safety Network tracks information about air accidents. Before the Germanwings crash on Tuesday, the network reported that pilots had intentionally caused five crashes, killing 422 people, since 1982. Those cases involved EgyptAir, SilkAir, Royal Air Maroc, Japan Airlines and LAM Mozambique Airlines.
The aviation industry has already been making some changes to answer these events.
In Asia, psychological tests are now a mon industry practice. Two of the five panies with in-flight suicides since 1982 are based in Asia.
U.S. Federal Aviation Administration rules bar anyone suffering from psychosis, severe personality disorder, manic-depressive illness or substance dependence the medical clearance to fly an airliner. Captains are required to renew their medical clearance every six months; first officers are required to renew it every year. Hundreds of people each year are refused a clearance.
European airlines are not currently required to have two crew members in the cockpit at all times, but some airlines have introduced the rule. They are doing so after it was reported that the co-pilot of the Germanwings flight had locked himself in the cockpit and did not allow the pilot to enter and take control of the aircraft. The German Aviation Association said Friday that German airlines would introduce a new rule about who must be in the cockpit.
Because of the rarity of suicide by aircraft, the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London cautions against overall judgments on depression. The college makes the point that pilots with depression have flown safely for years.
The college says pilots should have their physical and mental health tested. But, it says judgments about risk cannot be made for everyone equally. It says, “There will be pilots with experience of depression who have flown safely for decades, and assessments should be made on a case by case basis.”
I’m Mario Ritter.

2.Obama Hails Iran Deal, Begins Salesmanship
A clearly pleased President Obama strode into the Rose Garden on Thursday to announce that a goal sought by the United States for decades — restrictions on Iran's nuclear program — could be at hand if a final accord is hammered out.
“This framework would cut off every pathway that Iran could take to develop a nuclear weapon," Obama said. "Iran will face strict limitations on its program, and Iran has also agreed to the most robust and intrusive inspections and transparency regime ever negotiated for any nuclear program in history.”
The president detailed restrictions on the atomic materials Iran will be able to retain and the locations where they can be held. He repeatedly stressed that the accord would be based on verification, not trust.
“If Iran cheats, the world will know it. If we see something suspicious, we will inspect it," Obama said. "Iran’s past efforts to weaponize its program will be addressed. With this deal, Iran will face more inspections than any other country in the world.”
Recent polls showed Americans open to a negotiated settlement of the nuclear standoff with Iran, but that's not the case with all U.S. lawmakers. Last month, 47 Republican senators sent an open letter to Iran promising a de facto congressional veto of any deal reached.
After Thursday’s announcement, the letter’s author, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, dismissed the accord as “a list of dangerous U.S. concessions that will put Iran on the path to nuclear weapons.”
In a statement, House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio said, “Congress must be allowed to fully review the details of any agreement before any sanctions are lifted.”
Obama weled congressional debate but sought to inoculate the deal from harsh criticism.
“When you hear the inevitable critics of the deal sound off, ask them a simple question: Do you really think that this verifiable deal, if fully implemented, backed by the world’s major powers, is a worse option than the risk of another war in the Middle East?" he said. "Is it worse than doing what we’ve done for almost two decades, with Iran moving forward with its nuclear program and without robust inspections?”
Nuclear expert James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment said that "if legislators needed proof of concept that a stringent deal that restricts Iran’s nuclear program is reachable, they should have that evidence in today’s deal.”
Acton had been a skeptic of the negotiations but seemed pleasantly surprised by the oute.
“I am not going to predict what
legislators will do," he said. "We all recognize that legislators are often motivated by political considerations rather than by the text of the agreement. If they judge this agreement on its merits, this agreement deserves their support.”
The president stressed that the accord would not erase decades of mistrust between Washington and Tehran. But at a time of galloping conflicts from Ukraine to Syria to Yemen that have repeatedly put the administration’s foreign policy to the test, Obama, a Nobel Peace laureate, is within striking distance of a historic accord that, if pleted and successful, could cement his legacy on the world stage.

Why are so many young people crazy about civil servant test?
Every year hundreds of thousands of people in China take civil
service exams, and the number of applicants for government position vacancies increases sharply year by year. Most young people choose civil servant as their most ideal occupation after graduation. The following reasons can account for this kind of craze. Above all, nowadays college students face great employment pressure. Civil servant,
as one of the most stable professions in today’s China, bees their
preferable choice. Moreover, they believe that being a civil servant is very nice because it can bring paratively higher and steadier salary,
better welfare, the last but not least, the high social position of civil servants is also an important factor drawing many people to take part in
the civil servant test.
In my opinion, this craze in civil servant test will continue in the
following years. However, from the long run, it doesn’t do good to the
development of the nation. If most high quality talents gather in the government departments, it might lead to a waste of resources. Therefore,
both the individuals and the government should have a more objective
recognition of the civil servant test craze.
Travel broadens our mind
It has bee a fashion for us Chinese people to go travelling during
the long holidays in recent years. People either travel abroad or go
sightseeing within the country. In fact, travel has been turned into a part
of life. The significance of travel is obvious:it can broaden our mind.
Last summer, I visited Tai Mountain, a world known for natural
scenery, and Qu Fu, a world famous for historical and cultural city. On
the top of Tai Mountain I was deeply moved by the natural beauty,
picturesque scenes and especially the inscriptions carved on the rocks by
so many historical figures, who so profoundly express their love of our
country. In Qu Fu, I was thoroughly attracted our great culture and long
history of civilization, especially the school of elite thought by
Confucious as the greatest educator. I felt very proud of cultural lineage. As a student,I was determined to introduce our great country with so
many natural sceneries and so many places of historical relics to the
world.
As an old saying goes: travelling ten thousand miles and reading ten
thousand books is the top ideal for people. Travel really opens our mind
because it enables us to know about the beautiful scenery, the long history
and great culture of a nation. Remember every time you will experience
something new in mind.
The importance of keeping a good mood
Modern people are supposed to endure a lot of pressure, from education, career, or family. There are often tragic stories in the newspapers about the people who t insane or some who mitted suicide. Those tragedies once again indicate how important it is to keep a good mood.
Keeping a good mood under whatsoever circumstances is important in at least two aspects. The first one is that keeping a good mood can help people possess a right attitude towards various difficulties and challenges. Self-confidence is always the best way for people to get out of the difficult situation. For example, some people have failed in business for several times and now they are in deep debt, but they never give up their hope and still believe they have the ability to be successful. This self-confidence will surely lead them to success someday. The second one is that keeping a good mood can help people put disappointment and frustration in the right perspective. Thinking that failure is the mother of success, people can well survive the temporary blows and look forward to the right future.
Though the above analysis, we can realize how important it is to keep a good mood in order to face the pressure or challenges of modern society. When most people are aware of the importance of physical health,
we must simultaneously remind them of the significance of mental health.
My views on Examinations
In most schools and college the examination is used as a chief means of deciding whether a student succeeds or fails in mastering a particular subject. Although it does the job quite efficiently, its side effects are also enormous. The most undesirable effect is that examinations encourage bad study habits. As the examination score is the only criterion for his academic performance, a student is driven to memorize mechanically rather than to think creatively. Examinations do not motivate a student to obtain more knowledge, but to restrict his reading; they do not enable him to study consistently throughout the semester, but to induce cramming during exam week. Examinations also lower the standards of teaching. Since teachers themselves are often judged by examinations results, they are reduced to training their students in exam techniques. And no subjects can be taught successfully merely for the purpose of passing examinations.
Personally, I don't think that examinations can contribute anything really important to the students' academic development. My suggestion is that educational authorities should devise more efficient and reliable measures to evaluate students' abilities of analysing and solving
problems.

Be Happy 快乐
“The days that make us happy make us wise.”----John Masefield
“快乐的日子使人睿智。”——约翰?梅斯菲而德
When I first read this line by England’s Poet Laureate, it startled me. What did Masefield mean? Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the opposite was true. But his sober assurance was arresting. I could not forget it.
Finally, I seemed to grasp his meaning and realized that here was a profound observation. The wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear perception, not fogged by anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind spots caused by fear.
Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or contentment ---often es suddenly, like an April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has acpanied it. The grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; the shortings of your friends are more understandable and more forgivable. Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.
Nor are the insights of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with your thoughts turned in upon your emotional woes, your vision is cut short as though by a wall. Happy, the wall crumbles.
The long vista is there for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you----people, thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now fitted into the larger scene. Everything assumes a fairer proportion. And here is the beginning of wisdom.
